Computer Science at Coombe Girls’ School and Sixth form is the study of computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.
The Computer Science course in KS3 has been designed teach students the ”how“ of technology so that they learn how to control the technology around them, not just use it. They will investigate how to use computers systems safely, how to control computers systems using programming, how computers work and the binary system that electronic computing is based on.
Students will be able to access some software from home and we encourage them to do so. This includes Google apps, Google classroom.
We also encourage parents to discuss safe use of the internet their children. The think u know website is a great place to find age appropriate guidance for e-safety for both children and parents.
Pupils are given the opportunity to attend an extra-curricular computing club, twice a week, either robotics or code club. The computer rooms are also available at lunchtimes and after school. The Learning Resources Centre is available all day from 8.00am to 5.00pm (4.00pm on Fridays).
